Excellent read and very educational. I wanted to read it again as soon as I had finished it, tonreally let the information settle in. This is a doorway into the Hindu world, and I truly enjoyed the journey.

I used this book in my Religions of India class at West Virginia University and it was a WONDERFUL learning tool. Diana Eck addresses Hinduism from a perspective that most westerners have never considered. There is a lot of information in this book that helps to describe both the concepts of Hindu worship and some of its history. I definitely recommend this if you are interested in world religions or the varieties of religious experience.

Diana Eck is a wonderful scholar who has written several great books on Hinduism. Darsan (or "darshan," if you're transliterating it simply for an English-speaking audience) is a wonderfully simple introduction to Hindu iconography and the related ritual experience, a subject that is overwhelmingly broad and often unwieldy.If you are an undergraduate studying Eastern religions, a graduate student new to Hinduism, a Western devotee wanting better cross-cultural knowledge of how to respectfully relate to your chosen god or goddess as Hindus do, or a curious layperson wanting to know more about the Hindu religious experience and what all the images and rituals are about, this is a great book for you to begin with. This slim volume doesn't go into elaborate depth, but covers a lot of ground and introduces many key terms in a very readable way, and is a useful introductory work.

Had to get it for class.

This is the third edition of a very good book by a scholar of Indian art. It explains the idea of darshan--that the devotee not only sees the sacred image, but that the deity sees them. Well written.

Needed it for class. Nice read, wouldn't recommend though for anyone not interested in Indian practices.

Diana Eck's book provides information about image and idol worship in Hinduism. It specifically discusses the nature of darsan and "seeing" in the culture of Hinduism and the complex rituals involving consecration of images/"murtis". This book effectively introduces Hinduism from an alternate, arguably more effective, perspective of perhaps one of the most central "Hindu" practices. I read this book for my Introduction to Hinduism class and can say it greatly enhanced my knowledge of Image/Idol worship in Hinduism.

The book was very informative and easy to understand. It was a great help with the history and religion class I am taking.

It was in 2003 when my wife and I got married, and Maldives was chosen as our honeymoon destination. There were not so much information about the resorts back then so we've had a hard time making the decision. Luckily we did a great choice and had a couple of wonderful weeks there. At the end of that trip when we spend our final hours there at Male (the capital), we found this book (the 1st edition) at a local souvenir shop and bought it right away. The ratings about the relative price and room density, and the icons in the "information box" of this book give you a quick understanding of each resort and you may find it quite easy to narrow down your choices from more than one hundred to only a few according to your own interests. Beautiful pictures and well arranged texts give you a very comfortable and relaxed feeling when you read it, just like what the Maldives does. I’ve purchased the following editions of the book as a collection because Adrian Neville keeps visiting the resorts and making updates. (There are a lot more new resorts opening since then by the way.) And now this kindle edition makes it even more convenient to use as a guide book. We returned to the Maldives several times after our honeymoon and each time we did, we took this book from the bookshelf. Reading this book always reminds me of the beautiful memories there. It’s really a great book to have if you plan to go or already have been there.

Now everybody keep a secret. I am planning a surprise vacation for my significant other in the Maldives. And like many people I thought how can I make this extra special.? How can I choose the right resort?This book is a delightful read which provides in depth in sight on the many beautiful resorts. I enjoyed reading the resort. It has recommendations but not biased. And plenty of practical information

Picking a resort in the Maldives can be incredibly difficult - there are so many options that it becomes almost impossible to absorb all the information. Planning a holiday to the Maldives with Adrian Neville's knowledge of the islands and the unbiased and pertinent information contained in this book makes it all much less stressful. A must-have - and if we don't have a trip planned, the book makes for wonderful browsing and dreaming!

This book is a carbon copy of the website seven holidays.com. Only useful if you lack internet access. The website is better.

If you are spending a substantial amount of money on a trip to the Maldives (which i'm sure you are), this book is well worth the small extra cost that can save you a chunk of change down the road.You can find yourself or an island or boat with no wifi, and this book becomes increasingly essential. Take it with you!!

Applying the object-oriented paradigm in the development of software applications requires the individual developer and the application team to think and act quite differently than one would in approaching a procedures based project. Object-oriented projects follow a new software development life cycle, one that is both iterative and incremental, a cyclic spiral of analysis, design, and deployment. In this new application-development process, determining and defining properly the classes that are central to the desired system at the beginning of the life cycle is critical. Thorough analysis of the problem and good design up front saves time, and money and helps ensure a successful end result.

Although proponents of the object paradigm often say that identifying objects is a simple and intuitive process, a number of noted experts admit that this is not always true! Particularly with larger-scale applications, omitting a formal analysis of the base classes necessary to the application and the related analysis of their responsibilities and collaboration is certain to lead to missed schedules, blown budgets, and frayed nerves. The solution is to use the CRC process to determine the classes necessary to the system as part of the design process for the application. CRC (classes, responsibility, and collaboration) cards can be used to visualize and test different class-based models during the design phase. It is a proven technique used and advocated by leading methodologists.

The CRC Card Book demonstrates the use of the CRC methodology in a realistic team setting, covering the full range this methodology from initial identification of classes to the production of code based on these classes. At this writing, there are two other books on or incorporating coverage of CRC. Rebecca Wirfs-Brock wrote Designing Object-Oriented Software many years ago. It remains the classic definition of responsibility-driven design, but does not discuss the application of the technique in the team-oriented setting in which large-scale applications are developed. Nancy Wilkinson's book, Using CRC Cards, focuses specifically on the C++ programming community and likewise does not include any illustration of the team approach to class discovery.

We place special emphasis on the dynamics of team work, and how these dynamics are applied to the successful use of CRC. The first team strategy we suggest is brainstorming. We show how this applies to the task of finding classes and listing scenarios.

The second team strategy we recommend is role play. CRC cards provide a uniquely dynamic way of testing out your conception of the system and evaluating potential paths of collaboration. Role plays get everyone involved and invested in the system.
